A Divorce Coach can work with just one party or can work with both of the participants. I especially endorse the concept of the “One Coach Model” where I can work with both partners. I like this because it gives me a chance to help the couple learn anything they need in order to go forth, such as to be better “co-parents” and to be more effective in their 4-way meetings with their attorneys. Since modeling is a very effective form of learning, it allows everyone to learn from one another about the most helpful and least helpful ways to communicate their needs to one another.
As a Divorce Coach I am NOT working as a therapist, do not diagnose, nor do I assign insurance labels. I use my skills, particularly my mediation skills, to assist all parties to understand what they need in order to work through their divorce or separation. Sometimes emotions are so much in the way that the parties cannot even talk to each other let alone make rational decisions that affect the rest of their lives. In order to interrupt this pattern it is necessary to turn the negative emotions into rational decisions. Coaching can help you to decide if you do or do not want to keep fighting or work productively and then give you choices and paths to go down so you can have a Win-Win outcome. If you have any worries about your emotions becoming a concern or you want additional support, you may ask me to come to your meetings with your lawyers or your financial neutrals to help keep your sessions productive and moving forward.
Some people come to see me that do not have any idea how they want to end their relationship-Mediation? Collaborative lawyers? Going right to Court? Do it yourself? We are able to go through all the options so that the couple can select what is right for them, and I can assist them to find the right options.
